3M™ EMS and iD Ball Marker

Self-levelling underground point marker — suited for depths of 5–6 ft.

The 3M EMS and iD Ball Marker is a passive electronic point marker designed specifically for marking buried utilities at depths of 5 to 6 feet. Its self-levelling feature ensures it orients correctly after burial, maintaining consistent and reliable detection performance regardless of how it settles in the ground. Like all 3M EMS markers, the Ball Marker requires no batteries, no wiring, and no maintenance. It operates in all soil types — including under asphalt, cement, and wet or dry soil — and is colour-coded to APWA standards, with each utility type assigned its own unique frequency for unambiguous field identification. The iD version of the Ball Marker can be customised to store customer-specific asset information, which is accessible in the field through any 3M Dynatel iD-capable locator, or uploaded directly to a GIS system.
